Simei is part of Tampines town. The last new flats to be built in Simei was Parc Lumiere, a DBSS project in 2011. A 5-room flat at Parc Lumiere was sold for $920,000 in May 2023. Building more HDB flats is one way to improve accessibility and maintain affordability of homes.
It has been more than 10 years since a new public housing project was built in Simei. There could be pent-up demand for the flats. Simei is desirable for buyers as it is near amenities like a shopping mall, schools and employment opportunities. The airport is a short distance away.
One of the land parcels will have direct access to Upper Changi MRT station on the Downtown Line and is just opposite SUTD. The other land parcel is a short walk to Simei MRT station.
Huttons estimate between 800 and 1,000 flats to be built on the land parcels.
